Moving the Furniture

Today's work: finishing up a multi-day project to clean up and rearrange, to make space for a big 1940's vintage Logan lathe that I'm buying from Phil Oles. Here's the new space, exactly the right size! There's even room for an additional cabinet or tool near the door.

And I even made my old equipment fit! The Logan is going where the mill and red lathe used to live, and they just stepped back to another spot. I'm in no hurry to get rid of the red lathe - it works well, and there is often need to have two setups going at once.

The corner became the cutting and grinding space, and with Troy Nace's help, the big rolling workbench got a solid door as the top (the original top had warped a bit) and we cut down a free-from-a-friend blueprint cabinet to add under-bench storage. Right now those drawers have John Zimmerman's stainless parts for his Riviera in them - he's using his buffer to the right to shine it all up. When he's done, that space will be reclaimed for more metalworking stuff. Or maybe welding. 2018 is going to be the year I learn to weld. Call it a New Year's resolution.

I cleaned off a big rack and moved it across the room, where it now temporarily holds MG body and interior parts.

Hard to believe, but this big shop is starting to feel a little tight... where will I ever put that Bridgeport mill?
